Dear All, These poppies are some which I have done in 2 fires. 2nd fire is not fired yet. They are done totally by imagination. I'm going to take off the stems and put them on the other side for a better flow of the design. I was going to put a background on this, but decided not to do so. . Just wanted to show it to inspire people to paint poppies also as they are easy and fun to paint. I will likely make a study on this, so all rights reserved.

Celeste, I love your pink poppies! And I also love them just as they are without the background. Seeing them without the background I can definitely see the values without any distraction from their surroundings - my eyes are focusing right on the center of the main poppy. I really do like what you have done! And I love your color choice! >^..^<

OOOOh Celeste... Lovely they look quite translucent... clever girl and I do like the treatment on the leaves.. they can be quite difficult..and the buds are great too & I agree with you about the stems... the opposite curve would certainly please these eyes better... this will be a terrific study... This is a heartfelt plea from a token male ……………. Ladies ---- please stop humiliating me with your wonderful botanical studies. I have been painting longer than anyone of you …. So, why can’t I compete? I think that young artists Celestial, Tamsel and Cherub do it on purpose to make me jealous, and if that is correct …. Well, I tell you, you’ve succeeded . I feel at the moment that I should give up china painting and find another challenging hobby ….. clog dancing sounds interesting, perhaps I might be better at that ! Gordon. Ps …. Love the ‘old school’ poppies Celeste.

Dear Tami, Hugs and thank you so much for the post, you're a sweetie. Dear Val, Thank you also for your kind post. And painting from imagination is about as fun and as challenging as it gets for all of us who like to freehand paint. But often also very frustrating too. Especially when a fatal mistake is fired into the design. But, that's the only way to learn not to do that again. So, success (in some way) no matter if good or bad. Hugs, Val Dear June, I would love to see some white poppies....big fluffy ones...painted by you. They would be spectacular I'm sure. Thanks for the post. I really appreciate it. HUGS to you also. Dear Pat, Thank you also for the post. I really appreciate each of you doing so. It's like getting a hug from all. Thanks and I sure hope that you will paint some poppies soon. Can't wait to see some. Huggsies Dear Cynthia, Thank you also for the sweet post. HUGS Dear Jole, Thank you also for the post. I really appreciate your input because you have such a great freehand style yourself. I love your paintings as they are just YOU. One day I hope that you will paint freehand faces like you did recently. LOTS of those (after the boot comes off). You will be very successful especially if you put your wit and humor in there again. I love that! Dear Gord, I read your note and laughed so much and then realized how truly blessed I am to know you. You have a gift with humor that few on this earth has. I love it. Thanks so much. You made me very happy. I laugh ever time I read our new names you gave us. We need to paint ourselves like that as a logo. Also, I love your artwork and your student's success shows what a great mentor and instructor that you are. We love to get your jewels of wisdom and knowledge and I know that they do also. Huggsies to you and your family.

Very funny Gordon, but last time I checked Cherubs were all little boys! I do love Cherubs though! Would love to see some of your work. We are most honored to have your reply and watch what we are doing. You flatterer. Celeste, wow love these Poppies, makes me want to paint them again. You have the crinkly petals just right and the buds too. You just continue to amaze us all with your beautiful work. Keep them coming. Hugs! I love the pink and white ones together. Not a big fan of the red either, but fun to mix with other colors.

OOOps ... sorry Cherryl - I must admit that I never looked at cherubs closely enough to notice the difference ;D I should have paid more attention whilst attending lessons on anatomy at school ! I stand corrected m'dear.... Gordon. ps ... the reason none of you see any of my recent work is because I haven't seriously done any china painting for over two years .... shame on me!(I know) There is very little interest in the area where I live (The Potteries) and the main painting hobbies in adult education are Oil painting and Watercolours. So I just go with the flow! And .... an important factor is that I don't have to travel very far to get to classes. Perhaps I'm getting lazy ... or old ....... or both

I always thought they were just little baby angels too. So, I looked up on the internet. But discovered that cherubs are really big angels in the Bible. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CherubimWikipedia explained that cherubs are sometimes confused with putto/putti who are all boys (and are not based in religion apparently). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PuttoBut art sometimes shows baby angels as cherubs and I guess they are using this secular/westernized definition: www.thefreedictionary.com/cherubSo, now, since looking up on internet.....I'm even more confused about what I always thought was a 'cherub'. And Gordon, you are just doing what is convenient. Nothing wrong with that. We are just happy that you are still coming and joining in the conversations. And love the posts of information and knowledge about firing, painting, etc. that you have shared over the years to all the china painters.

I agree Celeste thanks for the info on Cherubs. I like being a Cherub! Hmm...Putti must be what I have been painting as cherubs. When painting them from Boucher paintings they are all little boys as he painted them as such.
Gordon would love to see your watercolors! Anything you are doing.

Hi again Cherryl .... The short answer regarding 'watercolours' is that I am not working on any at the moment. I never really think of myself as a water colourist .... having only got involved a few years ago when some of my class members were offered the chance to sign up for an Open College Network syllabus covering primarily Oil Painting & Mixed Media studies, over a three year period that included stages (levels) 1, 2, & 3. of the National accredited course. The The Adult Ed. Board allowed me to submit my suggested programme (Which they duly accepted) and some of the twenty two students (two later dropped out) also included W/C as part of the A.E. programme. The remaining bunch were successful ... and went away clutching their well earned certificates! What they didn't know was that when my programme was accepted I had to give myself a time related crash course on watercolour painting !!! I must admit .. it was a case of 'face beating scholarship' ... Luckily, I was a quick learner and got away with it. I never had any problems with Oil Painting though .... I started in that medium (local A.E. classes) in 1963, and in '67 was offered the position of assistant tutor, before being offered the opportunity to take over the class in 1971. and dear readers ... that class is still going strong as I speak (type). Keep this to yourself though ... I have been known to design some floral studies (whisper this bit , for the sake of my street cred) with water colours when I did week-end work shops at Pendrell Hall College which ran for quite a few years. So ... there you have it! Not much remains from my efforts (sold some - gave some away) .... but plenty of recorded studies from my 'gang'. If there are any new members out there - take a look and see what I mean. gord10.multiply.com Gordon ps Sorry this took so long .... so have a nice day now.

Gordon what eye candy. Thank you for sharing this beautiful body of work. Sad how some art seems to phase out, but I cannot believe it will be gone forever. There are those who still love the beauty of master pieces like these. Hmm... perhaps we should start calling you Professor Gordon! My hats off to you dear sir. Hugs!
