John Wofford's art work « Thread Started on Aug 31, 2008, 2:36pm »
While I was in Nashville, my youngest was busy doing some work. I've posted some of his work on the site before but now I've decided to give him a little area all his own.
Most of John's work isn't in china any more... darn it... he is really go with that, but these first pieces will be in pointillism. Two you have seen before, one is my eldest grandson. But I thought I'd put all of John's work in one place, so James will be here now.... next to his little brother, Michael.
When John finishes the rest of what he has been working on, I will add them here, but he has a commission for a book cover and that has to come before his personal work.

As anyone who knows both Batman or Jack Nickelson... what do you want to bet I just misspelled his last name? ... will remember that Nickelson played the Joker in one of the Batman movies.

This is the daughter of his best friend. JP sent a photo that had terrible lighting, so the shadows and highlights aren't what he wanted. But since John couldn't tell JP what he wanted another for, he had to go with what he had.

This is John. Only he has a different hair cut and a full beard now. AND he wears glasses. I can also tell that he was very tired. But this is my son, John Michael.

This little guy is my Michael. He was a month old when the photo was taken... and trying very hard to sleep. But his big brother was being very noisy, along with his papaw making all sorts of racket so Michael was having a hard time of it.
When the boys are here, they won't nap unless I am either holding them... Michael, or with James. so that is me holding Michael in this work.
As stated above, I will post more of John's work when he gets it finished. And when I get a chance I will hunt up the photos of his china painting. I hope I have photos of most of it, I know I have a couple left, but John sold his pieces almost as fast as he finished them. He only has one or two left and with his busy schedule doesn't have time to sit down and do any right now.

This is Christie Henson, daughter of Jim Henson, aka Mr. Magic. Jim is one of John's best friends and this picture was done for Jim's Christmas present.
Christie, like Jim and John, is also a magician, but she is also a school teacher.

Once again I'm bragging on my son... Mother's privileges . Here are his two latest pieces.
This one is Keith Leger as the Joker.... it is a darker version than the Jack Nickelson role. Since this is Halloween, this is the perfect time to post this one
Also, John is experimenting with making his dots in colour. Since the Keith's Joker had dirty blonde hair with green wash through it, John put the hair in that colour. And the waistcoat is in a dark green. Obviously the slash and mouth are red.
In case you are wondering about the words, that was the Joker's question in the movie.

Wow, Sam, your son is incredibly talented. Did he learn this in high school or college or from YOU....or ?
WOW weee and happy halloween for the joker! He is a very dark character in that movie. Maybe of all time in movies. So sad that Heath died. He was a great actor.

Hi Celeste,
Thank you for straightening me out on Heath's name. I confuse it with my cousin Keith's for some reason... guess my hearing is going.
I started John in art when he was about four years old. The other two were 6 and 10 at that time and I was working with them on china painting. John is the only one it stuck with.
He has had private lessons with one of my old oil teachers plus he majored in art in college. Like me, he learned what they had to teach and then went off on his own tangent.... always wanting to know why can't we do this or what will happen if I try that.
Now he is combining his artistic talent in with photo journalism and doing digital editing. He and a friend are just getting a business started so he doesn't have as much time to paint as he would like.
I really think John Michael is much more talented than I could ever be. It is just getting him the time he needs to paint the really good stuff.
